Společnost Cotherm byla založena v roce 1948 v Grenoble ve Francii rodinou Serigny, specializující se na návrh a výrobu termostatů pro elektrické zásobníkové ohřívače vody. Dnes je lídrem na trhu v oblasti řešení pro řízení teploty a energie.
Vývozní prodej začal v padesátých letech s cílem rozšířit se na nové geografické trhy. V osmdesátých a devadesátých letech Cotherm výrazně rozšířil svou základnu vytvořením dceřiných společností v oblasti prodeje i výroby a uzavíráním partnerství ve společných podnicích.
Za posledních 18 let vedlo významné úsilí v oblasti marketingu a výzkumu a vývoje k řadě inovativních produktů v oblasti správy energie. Každoročně jsou představována nová řešení, která uspokojují vývoj globálního trhu v oblasti energetické účinnosti, přechodu na obnovitelné zdroje energie, inteligentních sítí a konektivity.
